5 Facts Friday

Yay, it's Friday and here are five things:
  • My sweetie and I are going to the beach this weekend and I couldn't be more excited! I typically visit Galveston a couple times a year, but have yet to do so this year. Saturday, we will bathe in the sun, sip frozen cocktails out of plastic pouches, and hopefully keep sand out of those uncomfortable places.
  • I spend many lunch breaks with Karen, sitting on a patio near our offices, eating our home-packed lunches, chatting, and feeding scraps to the friendly campus squirrels. I frequently have little to offer them and after nibbling on a ranch-flavored rice cake, today I offered up a pickled beet to a little critter I've named Peter. It never occurred to me that the pickling might be an issue with Peter, but I did consider that he might not be a fan of beets. Not only was the poor guy afraid of the pickled beet, but apparently the smell upset his nose and he ran away to rub his face on a concrete awning. I felt pretty bad, but at the same time was crossing my fingers that I'd get to see a squirrel sneeze. (Yes, I know I have been eating a lot of pickled beets lately.)
  • I absolutely love giving gifts. Since March, I've been saving money for the wedding and have skipped any gift giving and I'm starting to have withdraws. I know nobody would complain if I made up for missed birthday presents after the wedding, right?! My Pinterest board of gift ideas is getting a little overloaded without my regular editing off of the items I've gifted.
  • Is anybody looking to rent a two bedroom house, be our neighbors, and pay a whopping, over-priced $1850 a month? If so, please let me know!
  • Finally, to wish a fond farewell while you start your weekend, I give you:

Wednesday Tidbits

My days are speeding past me! Only 6 more weeks until I'm a married lady. But for now, here are some tidbits:

  • I'm becoming mildly addicted to cheating on New York Time's crossword puzzles. I enjoy doing crossword puzzles as much as the next person, but it drives me crazy to start something knowing I will never be able to complete it. Sure, I have the time to complete one, but not the brain power. I recently realized that I can just keep trying out random letters on my iPhone app until I hit the right one! So far, I've completed over 20 puzzles that were only 75% done before I enlisted cheating.
  • I don't understand. I ate an entire jar of pickled beets last week and not a single substance leaving my body was red. I would've been happy with even a tinge of pink, but nothing!
  • BBC has a new job! I think it's been nearly two weeks since he started delivering flowers for a fancy flower shop. He absolutely loves it and enjoys the 9-5 routine as well as driving all over Austin. Yesterday, he delivered flowers to a woman on her 100th birthday. She told him she had a boyfriend that was young enough to be her son. I guess it's pretty hard to date your own age when you're 100. For some reason it makes me smile knowing that some cougars never die.
  • My cucamelons have officially died. Last week I came to terms and stopped watering them. Perhaps it's the heat of a Texas summer, but more likely, it's my brown thumb. JJ provided some consoling when he told me a friend of his planted the same seeds and a single, large, non-cucamelon was grown. We're pretty sure we were ripped off and received generic Mexican melon seeds. His plants are still thriving, so my fingers are crossed that something small, melon-like, and pickle-able is grown.

1st Tuesday

Not only is today the first Tuesday of the month, but it has also been a special day of firsts for me as well. Today I ate Chik-fil-A for the first time in my life! (Karen assured me that it does not mean that I hate the gays. I love the gays!) Karen and I had chicken nuggets for lunch and while I wasn't disappointment, I wasn't impressed. I think I failed in finding my favorite sauce and more importantly, I am a sucker for the boot shaped processed nuggets and sweet & sour sauce McDonald's hawks to tots. During our lunch adventure, two amorous squirrels graced us with a performance. I've always been a bit surprised that I haven't seen squirrel nookie before, but low and behold, I knocked that off my list at lunch also. While walking back to the office, Karen asked me if there were any other things I'd like to do for the first time today, so I've decided to make a list. While I won't be able to get most of these done today, I like the idea of having a list to work off of for the future.
  • See squirrel poop. I'm not sure why squirrels make up so many firsts, but they are so abundant that I'm a bit surprised when I haven't experienced something squirrely that I would like to.
  • Own a pug.
  • Do a backflip off a diving board. This will surely take practice since I can't even do a front flip, but perhaps I can master it by the end of next summer. This summer, I will attempt a front flip, which I haven't done since I was a child.
  • I've never had a husband before, but that will be changing soon!
  • Do a pull-up on my own! Before you call me a whimp, it's pretty damn hard!
  • Buy a brand new car. This was something I had planned on doing in 2013, but with an unanticipated wedding bleeding my budget, I'll have to put this off a little bit longer.
  • Buy my first house!
  • Drink a frozen drink from a cup made out of a pineapple! I've never been to a tropical island before and won't be honeymooning in Hawaii, so when else would I have had the chance?! Well, I'm going to do this one tonight our monthly ladies movie night. Ladies Pyscho Beach Party, y'all!
  • Own my first pigeon! I already have a list of potential pigeon names. Since I hope to have a nice brood of pidges, I will name them consecutively from A-Z so I will be able to differentiate between the generations. I consider my pigeon tattoo, Amelia (after my great grandmother) to be my first named pigeon, so the real bird will be either Bernadette or Byron.
  • Shoot a gun! I'd love to go to the gun range or even play paintball.
  • Visit Chicago, Portland, Hawaii, and Alaska. I don't think there are many other states I have an interest in, but that sounds like a pretty good enough tour of America for me.
Do you have any things on your list that you'd like to do for the first time?

5 Facts Friday

Hello, my lovely followers. I feel like things are going so fast in my little world that I haven't been able to take a minute to scribble some dribble for y'all, but today I give you some facts!!

  • I spent $25 on lipstick! I know this may shock some of you, and I would be shocked too, but it is the best lipstick in the world! I rarely splurge on beauty products and Pam (my lovely friend and hair stylist) can vouch for me on that one. It took her several years to finally get me to switch over from the dollar store Suave shampoo to Kevin Murphy, but I'll never switch back again. A far superior product is certainly worth the price. So, what's so special about this lipstick?! Well, it's blue (yes you read that right), it is unbelievably smooth and non-greasy, it sells out all the time, and it makes the perfect berry stained color that changes with your skin tone and chemistry. I've been on a waiting list for months, so I'm sure you can imagine my excitement. Lipstick Queen's Hello Sailor is totally worth every penny and since I only go through a tube of lippy a year, I think the splurge is warranted!
  • Ladies, is there anything more annoying than having that crazy stray hair stuck in your bra that you can never seem to find, but it makes itself known all day by itching the hell out of your tatas?!?! Yesterday, I finally threw a bra away because, after repeat inspections and washings, I was never able to find the culprit.
  • I'm selling my wedding dress!! No, the wedding hasn't been called off, but yesterday I accidentally found the very dress I had been dreaming of. The only problem is that I've already bought a wedding dress and I don't have the extra money to be extravagant and make a mid-wedding dress change. So, I've posted the first dress I bought on eBay since it has been over 30 days and I can't return it. The new dress won't have pockets like the first one, but I think I'll find a way to cope.
  • I learned something very valuable about portion control and caloric intake regarding my cats. Yes, they are fat (namely Cecilia), but no matter how much I insist that I'm not overfeeding them, nobody believes me. I switched the kitties over to a new kind of food that has less calories and there is a feeding guideline on the bag. I'm not sure if there was a portion guideline on the last type of cereal I fed them, but if there was I never saw it. I was, however, only giving them 1 cup a day for the two of them to share. According to the guidelines, they are both supposed to get 2/3 - 3/4 of a cup a day. Yahoo, I'm not doing anything wrong. Cecilia is just big-boned!
My little couch potato, Cecilia
  • You guys, I've applied to be on a game show!!! I've always loved game shows and have wanted to be on one, but it just hasn't happened yet. Since Wheel of Fortune hasn't called me back and Supermarket Sweep is MIA, I've settled for NBC's upcoming Million Second Quiz. I'm not sure what the premise of the show is exactly, but it appears to be a quiz that lasts 11 days!! What the hell, I've got nothing going on in September besides a bachelorette party, wedding prep, perhaps a bridal shower, and tons of other things. Sign me up!
